Fronius is top kit, one of the best in the world, they have some products/processes that no one else has, but some processes are very specialised and not for day to day applications.......but a lot of other manufacturers also have excellent equipment Lorch (obviously ), Kempii, ESAB etc.

So would you put the Butters range, in the same league as Fronius, Kempii, Lorch, ESAB etc?

I agree, you do have a vast range, probably one of the biggest in the UK and you products have a very good reputation with a lot of people on here, as does your after sales service, so you must be doing something right but I am sure even you would admit, head to head, machine to machine, its not in that league.

League of its own.....Butters try to cover every avenue.
Head to head machine to machine - Sold a few machines recently, even up against the big guns including Fonius, Kempii and Lorch, plan to sell a lot more too.

I can think of one sale you beat us on, last week in fact in Coventry and there were reasons for it, and machine performance certainly wasn't one.

I'd love a Fronius, though to put it bluntly cant afford it. I remember looking at a web page a while back and coming over all jealous when i saw those beautiful TIGs. Even my "man maths" skills could not come up with a solution to buy one. So If you ever need anyone to help out testing them, I will bravely volunteer. Indeedy i will put myself forward to host a Fronius/Lorch shoot out, in the back shed.

(now there's a duel i'd like to see)

What makes the Fronius / Lorch welders so good ? Take the Portamig for example Copper transformer, h/duty wire feed, excellent build quality, and super smooth welding. At the end of the day surely it's welding performance that matters, mind you I am no expert when it comes to any of the welders I have mentioned I use a Migatronic myself, I've no interest in better Technology in Mig welders costing twice the price it's laying that weld down with that satisfying buzzzz is what matters to me and less in the cabinet is less to go wrong !

A lot of what you said is valid Rusty, I have said repeatedly, with Standard transformer migs your paying for the quality of the componants used and I am sure that Portamig use quality stuff, the main principles behind the technology is the same as a Lorch M Series or Fronius Vario Star......as I have also said before the Lorch machines and Fronius (and I am sure some other good brands) have a couple of extra circuits, 1 which gives you Active inductance and 1 which marries the wire speed to the voltage you have selected, rather than it being guess work all the time.......but I think your comparing Pulsed mig inverters, and you can't compare the two.

Portamig is not in the same price bracket of the stuff you see on Ebay and Clarke/Sealey etc is it.....the Portamig is good stuff, but you pay a little more for it. You Get what you pay for.

Kinda of true, but a synergies machine, will weld anything, Iv never seen true production happy AL welds to come out of any transformer machine, A Fronius will, Im sure a Lorch will, and any other £6000 machine...

It is the major advantage these machines have......Horses for courses, a Friend bought two, when he was churning out ovens for the challenger 2 tanks, He would still be making them now if it was all done with the TIG...

6k ! Don't think there are many members on the DIY Mig Welding forum who weld tanks but there are plenty who weld .8mm - 1.0mm car body panels and a little Clarke Pro 90 at 25 amps will do a sterling job, Horses for Courses eh !
