bought a new welder is it up to the jobs i need it for

Hi guys

Well i know i dont visit this site as much as i should as im always busy at my workshop, im hoping to learn how to weld properly using malcolms great tutorial videos, but thought i might aswell pop back since i bought a new welder and hopefully with time and advice from the members on here my welds for jobs and projects will become a lot better.

I went out and got myself a new toy for the new workshop that iv now got, i needed it for the workshop anyway as my old pro 90 mig welder blew up on me during a customers job i had in a while ago.

Here is what i bought the other day and which also means i can now get cracking on the welding and strenghtening i have planned for the project Mitsubishi colt i have.

iF anyone interested in one then i got it from machinemart and as i was in need of one asap i had to pay full price rather than vat free day as iv heard about.

My question is will this welder be suitable for general car panel repairs and also to weld up full buggy frames using the build your own off road buggy manual ?



Also here is how the Mitsubishi colt project now looks after i had to "BORROW" a couple of bits to get the lancer through the mot.

Give me a week or 2 and it will be completly stripped so i can do all the welding and strenghtening i have planned so it will more than likely be a bare shell once iv preped it ready for the work.

It should be fine. A certain person here is a Clarke re-seller and could have done one cheaper!

The Clarke's are nice units. I had no complaints about my 130EN other than the torch lead could have been longer.

Should be able to do anything up to about 1/8"; more with a bit of V-prep. The CO2 will work fine on thinner stuff. You would probably want Ar/CO2 for doing frame/suspension work.

For best results, you would want a refillable tank of gas. The disposables can get expensive especially if you use the Argon/CO2. Check the no-rental thread to see if there is a less expensive option than renting.

Indeedy, no need to give us the specs, we know the Clark range well here. I hope you didnt pay full price for it, did you get it on one of their "VAT free days" ? They are considered the best for the price range, of small hobby & DIY migs. You could have done a lot worse. Just make sure you get a decent size gas bottle.

So now you have one, lets see some pics of the latest jobs, you do with it. We love photos here. Also, no need for just welding pics, we have a section of Tools & materials or a 'Brew room' where anything and everything can be discussed, and people send in all sorts of pics. Even a "show us yer shed" thread. Talking of which, you seem to have a bit more elbow room than me so i'm jealous. I don't have room to swing a spanner. Is that your workplace or your home garage ?

have any of you ever looked at the Fronius range of welding units that are on the market these days. Clarke is ok if you want cheep, but i suppose you get what you pay for and can ony buy what you can afford.

our units are probably a little bit more than your clarke, migatronic, cebora... but i will say one thing you will never want to use any other unit again. HONESTLY. !!!!! this is from others not just me..
