Bought a New Laptop

OK - so you're all thinking this is not posted in the correct section - it is not a "Project" - bear (bare?) with me....
Being old, I didn't grow up with a smart phone glued to my head, let alone see a desk top computer at work until I was in my 30's; so this whole computer literacy learning journey, was just that, a journey.
I don't use a computer as a platform for social networking, listening to music or playing games - I use it for work, boring **** that I am - this comprises spreadsheets, power point presentations, emails, organizing photos, data research, and compiling reports.
After many years I became quite proficient and comfortable working within these fields - even though I was using an Thinkpad X230 running Windows 7 and Office 2010....
You know what's coming don't you...?
Now I've got a Dell XPS13, running Windows 11 and Office 2021.... and, for icing on the cake, it's got a "butterfly keyboard"
I feel like someone has gone into my workshop, not only rearranged all my tools, but moved them into another workshop.
So - "My Project" is now having to learn how to drive this thing - everything is different - I feel like some dick head somewhere decided that the wheel for some reason should be re-invented.
Why can't people just leave things alone that work.
If you're thinking of changing your lap top .... proceed with caution - unless you want a "Project" in your life.

I personally like windows 11 and the latest office

My work machine is windows 10 but my personal laptop is 11

get used to it, its the way of the world, Im sure some people would like to be running windows 3.1 on it, but its not going to happen with modern software. The only way arround it is by having a computer that doesnt have contact with the modern world, I have an old laptop that has xp on it, but its only used once every few months as its got some software on it that wont run on a modern machine. my laptop is running windows 11, I just using it for browsing the net, so after I googled how to turn it off, its been fine. Whats really annoying me about the advancement of technology, and at the end of 2024, Im going to have to get a modern phone as they are switching the 3G transmitters off, and mine wont work with 4G or 5G, but then again it came out just before the iphone, and they're on the 13th version now.

anyway enough of my rant about modern technology, we'd like to live without it, but its difficult

In other news, cars will start driving on the right next week. If the experiment is a success, trucks and buses will switch over too. At the same time, diesel engines vehicles will make the switch to vegetable oil. New engines will be needed to suit the new fuel. Headlights will also need to be replaced. Petrol engined vehicles will remain as they are except the position of the accelerator, brake and clutch pedals will be reversed since we are no longer bound by Eu regulations.

you can change it but at the update it will be removed and blocked as windows controls it not you as your not the owner you might be the of the hardware but your not of the operating system

my advice at this point is go after all of your drivers for your machine as this gives you options if you decide to sack windows 11 at any time

if you do attempt to switch to another OS beaware of this

oh i agree with that reference of buy this software to change blah blah
but you can change the os to another until you update and then it gets removed

as goes for your squable about pre-release id have to say B.S you and i both know theres one hell of a difference between a prerelease to a general release

ive had enough copys over the years ( pre-release and general release ) to know better but I tend to prefer windows stripped down version ( removed of its junk )

It just rewrites the mbr, and can be fixed within windows CMD or with a Linux boot disk

Plus why dual boot? I have windows machines and Linux machines. Not the same machines as used for different things

if you want the god mode back in windows 11 as god mode was used in the pro version of windows as home version dosnt have it

"God mode", thats genius, if anything goes wrong, you can just blame it on an Act of God....... I just find it funny, don't even know or want to know what God mode is though

its control panel with xp and windows 7 also with pro versions of windows

home version in windows 7 dosnt have it unless you activate it or search to get it

windows 10 and 11 you have to use a folder to access it as windows removed that option from you so you have to dig around and get frustrated just to get where you want to do

I've heard some horror stories too, but reading about people using windows happily are just boring right?

If you don't like having a modern operating system or like to believe Microsoft are spying on you, then don't use it

My home network is mapped below and I can 100% confirm NOTHING has ever been sent to Microsoft that is unexpected or could be considered spying

Fibre modem > hardware firewall > router > connected devices

Apple devices however have turned up some interesting stuff in the logs

Have you checked they're all real as some used to be painted on to avoid window tax if you had more than 10 windows.

If it is an activity likely to take more than 6 weeks - and for some people even longer - it surely is a "Project"
