Bottled gas prices.

I this chill weather i have a small propane heater that I put on for a little while until i get going and I'm generating my own heat, Anyway i asked a local supplier what price a 19Kg bottle was and was told
£38-50p, Checked around on the internet and came across Flogas, `rang them yesterday and it was delivered free today all for the price of £24-00 and no deposit on the bottle, Excellent price and service. And to boot it came over 50 miles from Blaydon.

About 38 quid is what I've been paying for years for a 19 kg propane, but £24 and delivered is an absolute bargain !!

I get the 47kg bottles and "decant" into the smaller sizes.

£26 is what my local Calor dealer, (the ironmongers), charges for a 19kg refill. Sounds like there's quite some variation in prices.

£ 28.00 19Kg Calor & £ 60.00 for 47Kg
£ 33.60 19Kg Shell
So looks like regional variation.

An Autogas adapter is about £38 but it allows you to fill any size propane bottle from an Autogas pump (LPG).

Around here Autogas is about 52p a litre, its best to pick a garage where the Autogas pump is not on the main forecourt as the cashier's can be assy about it.
The other point is not to go in and just fill say one 3.9kg bottle as it will be less than a fiver to fill which may make the staff suspicious.
I use a garage where the Autogas pump is on the far side of the forecourt, obscured from view when the garage is busy, and fill a few bottles at a time in the back of my van.
I lend my adaptor to a friend and he fills his bottles in the back of his Freelander.

That looks like a really handy bit of kit, Shame ive just picked up two 19kg bottles the other day at a cost of nearly 80 quid !!!!!!!!!

As for the nearest autogas garage it has the gas pump right at the front of the garage virtually under the cashiers nose

Definitely frowned upon by the petrol stations, judging from what's been said on here in the past.

It's not illegal at all, just not liked. After all most also sell bottled gas from Calor or Flo Gas, so eating into margins.

What happens to the ownership of the bottles if the gas supplier goes belly up?
The reason I ask is that a pal had about 12 47KG cylinders at any one time but then the gas supply company went under and he was left with all the bottles.

Have a look on the Flogas, (I think there the supplier I recall seeing several brands listed on), site. There's a chance they may be the new owners. They seem to have taken over quite a few.

i dont think i could get away with refilling them at the forecourt as its too close to cashier window.

but decanting from a large bottle, say a 19kg ? to a 3.6kg is do able...

coz i can do that at home ?

a while back someone on here was taking about quick release coupling for gas.
might of been for shielding gas.
i wonder if suitable for propane too....?

That's something I've been wondering about, for the ability to swap torches without having to fart about.

yes indeed mattF

now i have that torch on a 3.9kg bottle..
i want to put a new longer gas pipe on the torch.. says 6mtr
so i can run it from a 19kg bottle that tucked out the way in the back corner of garage.
hidden if you like... behind a curtain out of sight and all that.
be nice to be able to just plug gas pipe onto the reg.

turn bottle on... open torch valve and light her up..
and use the small 3.9kg bottle, when heat needed elsewhere.

Aye, it would definitely be handy. Having a fixed reg./torch combo doesn't allow much leeway for playing around with setups. Hopefully someone will have a suggestion for a good quick release coupling that can cope with propane. I've seen a few on Ebay, but they look too much like airline couplers for my liking.
