bottle type

hello all.

I have been given a Co2 bottle to use with my Mig.
But i would just like to ask if this type of bottle is ok to use.
here is a photo of it to help.

Looks like a dip tube type CO2 cylinder, you will need to fit a heater after the regulator to ensure you get gas and not liquid out of it

Sell it to a plumber if it has gas in it and get one with no dip tube. They use them to freeze live pipework for emergency work.

Are you sure?

The regulator probably wouldn't pass liquid, but even if it did when it boils after the reg. the pressure would be far in excess of the reg settings.

The heaters used on CO2 heat the gas passed through the regulator after it has boiled off inside the bottle. Heating is sometimes necessary to remove the chill from the gas.

As Pedro says, try to exchange it for a conventional bottle.

You're 100% correct, mental blockage.
The only other time you would need a heater is if the flow rate was that high it was freezing the reg, we generally find that most regs can cope with around 100 ltr/min before their performance starts to suffer

you should be able to use it upside down. The bottom of the syphon tube should then be above the level of the liquid.

I thought you could do that as well but was not certain.

The reg will freeze as the liquid changes to gas inside the reg, sucking heat out of the reg.

I had that happen with a propane tank that had a dip tube. The reg went crazy

Flog it to a plumber and get a no rental bottle of CO2/Argon mix , much better job all round !
