Bosch S40 Drill Sharpener - anygood?

Has anyone got one of these, are they any good?

I've bought it for not a lot and says good condition but it is missing the clamping shroud thing shown in the last pic which I think I can make. The later S41 sell for £72 new and look more plastic, so hoping it will be half decent up to 10mm

I do all mine by hand, the 2mm are getting dif now...eye's n age....hahaha.....
never heard anything good about that style...made for the DIY'ers...

Not so much professional but less Mickey Mouse.

Yes I have one, yes they do a reasonable job of sharpening drill bits and yes 75% of people on here say don't do it learn to sharpen them on a wheel.
They will do a nice split point something that I had never attempted to grind before, and you can accuratly do non standard angles on the cutting edge probably useful for drilling thin sheet or non ferrous but I have not experimented with that.

That's normally because they are from factory poorly sharpened so we end up pushing far to hard

that could very well be the case

I had a 3.5mm drill for pop rivets through aluminium and it was sharpened a lot till I did it at a shallower angle and it lasted for days at a time then. Anything smaller than that I would struggle to sharpen by eye.

Found this "loose" back to back comparison, its about 15mins long but at least he doesn't waffle.
Paid £15 for the Bosch, see how well it does when it gets here.

This old Bosch S40 arrived with with the unobtainium grinding wheel broken nicely into 4 pieces reckon its been thrown at a wall
Not to be put off, JB glued the wheel together, setup a flexi snake thing in pillar drill with a wee chuck on the end then clamped in a vice, easy to present the drill sharpener and work on the bits.

Have to say I'm fairly impressed and took about a minute even for the domed few I had. its limited to small bits upto 10mm and there's no way I would buy a new S41 for £70+ and the unobtainable grinding wheel issue!
But dead handy for me while the wheel lasts

Not unlike the Lidl offering but by the looks of it the Bosch has a metal ring to locate the bits.
@Gragson I may still have a couple of stones from the Lidl one that died before I got the Drill Dr, if you want to measure the broken one from your Bosch and they are the same size I can post them over to you as they will probably never be any use to me beyond using the back side to de bur milled edges.

Yes the head is some sort of die cast ali with a steel locating boss and flange underneath, I reckon its a fairly old Bosch design which then got copied by everyman and his hoi sin dog.

The stone measures about 58mm OD and about 45mm ID, if yours are close to that I would love the please. Cheers Chris

I can not find the box with the two un used wheels but I have found the part used one the dimensions are aprox. 17mm thick od 58mm and id smallest 40mm so close.

The problem with finding thing at the moment is that my already over stuffed garage now also contains most of the contents that I cleared from my father's garage. If you think they / it is close enough to make use of I will continue looking this afternoon. (I can clearly remember them to be in a white unmarked box about 2 1/2" x 1" x 3" it also contained a set of drill bits that came with the sharpener )
