bosch grinders

been searching the web and with the help of this forum im thinking of getting the bosch gws6-115. anybody got any comments good or bad, ive found it deliverd for £36 from these boys

No experience of that particular model, but Bosch (GWS-blue range) seem to last very well in our workshop... tough life!
For a big brand grinder, i doubt you would get much cheaper tbh.

Other than a slight issue with the very flexible leads breaking the internal cores of the wire with use (Probably rectified that by now) never had any problems with the blue bosch stuff. All our grinders are blue bosch - they manage to withstand the hammer they get - dropped on the floor, thrown across the bench etc, so probably a good buy - can't go wrong for that price.
Let us know how you get on with it if you decide to buy it!

After buying one of 'em a few years back when they were on special offer i will be sticking with them over the slightly larger/more powerful gws8-115, more than enough guts for a 4.5" grinder and cheaper too.

I have visited the shop a few times as it's quite local. Good when it's open but it seems some days the guy can't be bothered to open up so I don't bother much anymore. It's a pity seeing as they have a good web-site that comes up early on many searches so If they ran the business properly it would probably make a fortune.

hi all.
carnt face paying 50 quid plus for a grinder i thought i had bought for 35 so whats my best option. the last "which grinder should i buy thread" was 2007 so its time for a new one. i need a good grinder at a good price so what would you recommend

verry good i have 3 of there drills and a diamond chaser .one drill i paid 12 quid from carbootsale 8 years ago. its been used everyday just renewed the flex and carbon brushes still runs

Makita in work and blue bosch at home. Both makes seem good, but the makitas look nicer

Hitachi stuff is nice too. If you're not in a hurry and can live with several emails a week from 'em Parkertools often run offers. IIRC they've had bosch blue grinders for £29.99 twice this year. Currently £45 which can probably be beaten with a google

Makita are the lightest and nicest to use. Dewalt not as nice to hold. I've a big old GWS Bosch got to be 15 years old and still going strong but you can feel the weight of it against newer models.

i got a little bosh one what i find nice. and it was cheep. i found it in tesco for £15 it was reduced from 50odd so i grabed it, well who wouldnt

over here 125mm is a more common size in use ( industrial workshops etc) so disks are cheaper etc
always good to check out the price of parts when pricing up what grinder to buy, like Brushes and gear sets etc
Metabo are good but cost more and so do the parts

we had Bosch GWS14-125 Angle Grinders for many years in our workshop and had a good run out of them for a while, until we switched from gas cutting to 1mm cutting disks, then the guys kept wrecking the gears from to much push on the grinder. although the parts cost was not to bad, it soon mounted up and the gear housings tend to break apart between the top two mounting scews when dropped.
plus we now have to use grinders with Dead man switches ( a few of our mining clients require this on there work sites )

so we have switched to a Makita GA5021C 125mm Angle Grinder , and parts like brushes etc are even cheaper than bosh here. although I found the factory installed bearings often don't even last a year . but once replaced they seem to be doing ok now.

I don't think there is a perfect 5" grinder, but the operator has lot to do with it .
for example when using a 5" grinder and you have a lot more weight on your forward foot than your back foot , chances are you are overworking the grinder - slowing it down and increasing the rotor slip, which makes the grinder over heat.
just a little bit more not a lot . works for me anyways

I have an old Bosch 115 mm which still goes well after 15 years, and an Hitachi 100 mm which must be coming up for 10 years now, and both have been excellent value. I vaguely remember replacing a bearing in one of them, but no hassle.
I also have a B&D 115 mm, which is the one I keep for lending to people, hoping it won't come back, but it always does...
