Bosch battery upgrade

Can anyone tell me of a battery upgrade for this drill,I’d like a higher amperage than my current 1.5,I’ve asked a few e bay sellers but they’ve stated they don’t stock one.

Any of the bosch professional 18v ones will fit that.
None of them will give you any more oomph than the other though.

They go from 1.5a/h all the way up to 12a/h.
The 4a/h is about the best value for money at the moment based on popular pricing.

Bosch also do a ''procore'range of batteries that have a higher discharge capability so those do deliver more oomph but that drill won't be able to use any more amps than the regular battery supplies so not worth the extra cost really. I expect just replacing your old battery with a new one will be noticeably better anyway

None of them will give you any more oomph than the other though.

As he says, a higher capacity battery will not improve the performance of the drill, just give the same performance for a longer time. It is like fitting a bigger fuel tank, not changing the octane rating of the petrol.

Actually it does, somewhat, because the voltage drop is lower when you're drawing similar power from a larger battery.

Think of it more like a hole in a bucket. The higher the water level is to start with, the faster the flow rate is.

In practice (with that specific drill) it does not seem to make any difference.
All the current bosch batteries can deliver more power than that drill can use so you get the same performance from when you start to when the low voltage cut-off kicks in

All you gain from a bigger battery is a longer run time.

I choose the batteries depending on the job.
If I had to crawl/climb into somewhere and do 200 holes then one big battery would be coming with me.
For workshop use doing 200 holes maybe 2 smaller batteries as they make the tool a lot lighter and one can be on charge while using the other.

For workshop/bench use have a look at the bosch wireless chargers as they are pretty handy for some situations

Oh all the batteries can deliver more, of course, or they'd burn out, but still, there's a small bump with those bigger battery packs. Is it anything you'd notice outside of using it on an impact wrench or with a huge bit? Probably not

I disagree, that is not how a hole in a bucket works...

You are confusing that with what happens to the stream of water when it reaches the ground. From a gravitational perspective, you might even argue the stream from a hole in a bucket is reduced as it gets higher up. Astronauts in low earth orbit only experience about 90% of Earths gravity...

If you have a hole in the bucket, the further you fill the bucket the more head pressure you generate at the hole. Even if you filled it to low earth orbit you'd still be increasing the head pressure and the flow rate. Well, eventually you'd choke it as you tried to go supersonic but still.

As for batteries, most of them run Samsung 1500's in the small packs, actually a lower spec 10A discharge version but this 15A will illustrate nicely:

Look at the 10A curve for voltage on that. Now look at a Samsung 3000maH cell:

Never mind when you're really pushing the drill/driver and using higher currents.

A higher capacity than your current ( !! ) 1.5 Ah .

To reach higher Ah capacity for a battery, cells are put in parallel. The paralleling process is always done first, at the cell level, before the series string is built.This gives the added benefit of the battery having a lower internal resistance and being able to deliver a higher maximum current.

In that case (espionage if that drill is the only tool you are running) it's not worth paying the extra for the procore or the eneracer batteries. The normal ones will be fine.
If you can be bothered you can look at the price of the various ones and devide that by the capacity to work out the £perA/H.
Last time I did it the 4ah worked out the best value for money.

Although, if its £50 for a 4ah or £30 each for a couple of 2ah you might think its better to spend a little more for smaller, lighter batteries. Ok, you will have to swap them over twice as often but apart from making the tool lighter you can put one on charge while using the other and if you break/loose one you can still keep drilling.

It’s my secondary battery drill,kept in the workshop,the main battery one is in the van,I have 3 Bosch corded in the workshop,get laughed at for being old fashioned,that’s ok by me.

Some of the bigger drills, saws, grinders etc need the procore batteries for full performance but if you don't plan to get any of them then just the regular batterys will do you just fine.

I find it is the multitool and reciprocating saw that chews their way through batteries.

Yes there are plenty of tools that get through the batteries quickly.
But not that many of them (yet) that gain the full benefit of the higher discharge rates of the procore packs.
So for something like the multitool you would be better off spending £60 on a 6a/h standard pack than spending £50 on a 4a/h procore pack.
