A slip ring kit is £5.20 how easy will it be to get the rear bearing off should i also change this out?

Dunno, not tried that yet, but can't be rocket science. I should, as I have several units on the shelf with duff bearings.

I probably have a couple of millions worth of kit stashed in the corners of my workshop(in my opinion..). The only problem is finding 'someone' who will buy it... Dispite my best efforts, not too many lining up at the door. I really don't understand this.

Noticed something new today. A leak from the bottom of the bell housing. Too clean for engine oil. Gearbox oil?

Slide underneath & check the gearbox oil every so often, gear oil is cheap enough & a little oil makes a lot of mess.

I changed the clutch/dmf 2 years ago what could i have done wrong?

check engine dipstick,if oil is black and leaking oil brown its defo gearbox,but if you changed engine oil recently and its still brown it could be engine,rear end seal.

Engine oil is black. I still have some Gearbox oil it feels similar but does not smell the same.

its not drybollick (clutch fluid) is it?

Slave cylinder maybe ( assuming its a hydraulic clutch ) ??

Just read back through the thread, Seat Alhambra isn't that a concentric slave cylinder / release bearing.

I also thought this but brake fluid level looks good.

The slave cylinder was the original problem is was in pieces.

i'd strategicly ignore it and just top things up, its way to cold for hugging still functiong gearboxes

Yep i did well to get that in and out on my own don't really feel like doing it again. Will top it up and see how much its lost.

i had to take the box out the golf 5, i was feeling weak and gave up doing on my own so got a mate to help ( who promtly took the **** untill he tryed to lift it )

Pulled the fill plug on the gearbox and got a trickle of oil slapped it back in then topped up break fluid to just below the mesh. Can see fluid level on the side so will use the mesh as a reference when i check it in the future.

That seems a crazy idea to put the slave cylinder inside the bell housing, a friend has a newish Passat. The slave cylinder went & he had to get towed in, box out & the garage found that the fluid had contaminated the clutch, so new clutch as well. It turned what should have been a fairly small & cheap job into a major expense. The garage that repaired it was a small family concern that my friend knows & trusts, but I shudder to think what VW would have charged.

its all about reduceing the component count and weight tbh they are pritty reliable, concentric slaves are often used as an upgrade on motorsport stuff

By the looks of it the new brushes have fixed the problem for now battery light has gone off and have a voltage of 14.2 at idle, next time i will replace the slip rings.

But it was not all smooth sailing nipped the alternator mounting bolts up with a 1/4inch ratchet got the haynes manual out and set the correct torque on my torque wrench and the bolt snapped . Replaced with a similar bolt from the hardware shop as VW never seem to stock anything and dont like ordering just a bolt.
