.17 HMR wouldn't work in a .177 barrel as a .17 bullet is .172 dia which is 4.4 mm and .177 is 4.5mm thus you would have slap either side of the bullet in the barell be more accurate just throwing the gun at your target

you can buy .30 air rifles though, and to be fair, pretty much any barrel can be converted to take live ammo, a .17hmr bullet would go down my .177 air rifle barrel with no issue, and a .22lr or .22 hornet would go down my .22 air rifles. a .223 will go down the one of my air rifle barrels as well

Have you tried Border barrels in Birmingham Brokenbiker ? They make custom barrels of all sizes, calibres and descriptions. It seems most rifle builders simply don't make their own barrels anymore as a far superior item can be bought from walther etc. You should also try John Knibbs in birmingham.

Also there is a difference between firearms rifling and air rifle rifling, the rifling for air rifles has to be shallow as the pellet skirt will only expand so far when hit by the air blast. If you try to use a firearms barrel for air the pellet won't seal in the rifling and you get blow-by with low power and woeful accuracy.

Maybe for a calibre that big a smoothbore tube would be better but with a short rifled section at the muzzle like the old holland & holland paradox guns?
