Borescope recommendations...?

I think the time has come to buy one of these. I'd like to take a look into various cavities and inaccessible areas before (and possibly after applying cavity wax). I'm sure it'll come in handy for other jobs too.

I know nothing about these devices. i.e what features are important and to look out for.

Can a good quekity one of these be had for a budget of £100 or thereabouts?

I bought the Lidl one they had a week or so ago and was impressed how good the picture is. Can't remember if it was £30 or £40. I also have a cheapy USB one but it only focusses on a very small range and is pretty useless.

You can buy a USB borescope camera for a few quid. Quality isn't the best and the one I have is very close focussed but I've dropped it down spark plug holes and through inlet manifolds to look at valves, piston and piston walls with success. They only have a cable as standard so might need a bit of ingenuity to guide it long distances.

Another vote for the profix scope from Aldi. Was not expecting much for the money but have to say its good.



Saved having to strip down a chainsaw to see what was wrong with it, it can stay in one piece until a new barrel and piston turn up

I've got an inspection mirror, it gets some use.
But it doesn't seem to go through the same size holes as my 5.5mm borescope does...

I have one the lighting on its a let down though so stick a good torch under as well

That's a good price for sure with quality picture resolution

Unless you're desperate for one, they seem to come on offer every few months, just have to wait.

I wouldn't say desperate but I would like to buy and use one within the next few weeks. I would buy an equivalent unit but the price seems to be twenty to forty quid mid more

I too have the Lidl one. Have yet to use it on a car but I have played around with it & I have got very clear views of my ear canal!

I forgot I had it last week & used a mirror to line up timing marks for a timing belt change. It was only when I finished that I remembered about the camera!
