Bore reducer/sleeve advice

I'm looking for a sleeve to allow me to fit the pulley from my (old) pillar drill onto a new electric motor.
The pulley has come off a 2" long, 5/8" diameter shaft. No key, grub screw.
The new motor (yet to be purchased) has a 30mm long, 14mm diameter shaft with a key.
I don't need the key, so that will be removed (I think I can persuade it out?)

I don't own a lathe or have the skills to make a sleeve, so I'm on the hunt for someone to make one for me. A neighbour recommended a local firm. They've done some small jobs for him in the past.

Questions:
1) I am right in thinking that it would be better to use someone local who can have the pulley & motor in from of them and can fine tune the fit?
2) What material to have the sleeve made from? Brass?
3) What's a reasonable price to do the job for?

Is there a model engineering society near you? one of their members would make you the necessary sleeve for a nominal charge.

The difference between 5/8" and 14mm is so small I think I'd be tempted to wrap a slice of something around the motor spindle - something like 1mm aluminium or brass sheet and tap the pulley on. A midgie's todger of runout on a belt drive pulley is neither here nor there.
Otherwise a bit of brass bored out, but you're correct in saying that best fit would be achieved by having the bits in front of the turner. The shame is that you'd be throwing a lot of brass away if you turned it from solid.

^^ I was thinking along those lines, the wall thickness of the bush would be just under 1mm and there would be a risk of damaging the bush when fitting the pulley to the shaft.

When I rebuilt my drill I searched Ebay for a motor with the correct shaft size, speed and voltage.

With the ~20mm shorter shaft, unless it's a single pulley that sits on the end it'll be fine. Stepped pulleys are plenty strong enough to work fine with half the shaft depth engaged - it's not like the belt should be under massive tension.

Yes, it's a stepped pulley.
An aluminium beer can sounds like a good (and inexpensive) idea that I can try.
I couldn't find a suitable motor with the complete spec, hence the compromise. "If you can't solve the problem, change the problem" as one of my teachers used to say.

^^^ I agree apart from beer can it is not thick enough,I did the same with a shaft a few weeks ago on a strimmer to adjust from 24mm to 22mm used 1mm ally should have been perfect, but I formed the tube, and it was a little too tight, so I slipped the new split adapter on a deep socket and spun it with my nut gun whilst strapping it with emery tape to get it to the precise size, you are going to have the same issue because 5/8 is 15.875mm 14+2 =16mm so will need .125 off

Brass shim can be bought in a range of sizes. Often used as a quick rejoint on shotguns. It will do your job the easiest and quickest way- other than that what's it going to cost? Heck your looking at a £ 2 repair man got to be worth a go

For a proper fit you want shim 0.94mm thick. Now, if you get 1mm thick shim and roll it for a very good fit then heat up the ally pulley piping hot and slip it on quick you won't need a grub screw nor a key because you'll have a 2 thou shrink fit . Only problem is you only get the one shot at it. Put a jubliee clip on the shaft where you want to pulley to stop and you can remove it later.
