Bore Honing

Want to hone/glaze bust a bike cylinder barrel. Bought the honing tool but looking for advice on speed and lubrication.

Instructions only state a max speed (2000+ rpm!) and work colleague recommended using paraffin/kerosene for lubricant.

Any suggestions folks?

Paraffin/kerosene as you already mentioned, WD40 works as well.

WD40 is OK for lube,Just do it at whatever speed you can do a good cross hatch.
Washing the cylinder with hot soapy water works best,oil it immediately or it will rust while you watch.

i always found a slower speed allows the stones to cut, too fast and it seems to polish the surface
i used 1/2 & 1/2 oil and petrol or diesel as lube

I always use paraffin, as to speed use a pistol drill with variable speed and experiment. Be careful not to pull the hone too far out of the bore in case it springs open and cuts a bevel at the top.
