Quality and size seem to have improved a lot in the last few years. I have an old usb one, used it for checking engine bores and stuff. The camera was about 8mm and wasnt great quality, with an annoying cable, the LED's glare on the lens making difficult to see.

I see there are now wireless ones, otoscopes, for poking up your ear holes. 3mm camera that connects to phone, the quality looks a lot better. I am tempted to get one for checking engines.

I bought one of the earhole cameras a few years ago.
Cameras isn't any better than the five quid 8mm USB cameras.
I found it very difficult to swivel the thing around to get the view I wanted,
as for using the little spoon[to scoop the dingleberries out with] I didn't even try and use it.

I have a 5mm one for gun bores. Very good visuals. Got it 5 years ago. Little 90 degree mirror (set at 45) for looking at the sidewalls but it gets smudged a lot. Actually better than this but it is the only pic I've got.

Same here. It’s a really handy but if kit for bodywork repairs.

I’ve used it to inspect car body cavities for rust and retrieving lost bolts.

The only negative with them is the fixed focal distance but for the price they have a place in every toolbox.

Bought the Draper one from tool station last week or so. It’s fine with a clear picture in colour or black and white.
Less than £40.

Purchased the same a couple of years ago.

Find it a little moody when connecting to my phone but when connecting properly images are reasonably clear.

As with all such scope types I find the thin cable a little difficult to control at any great length and image orientation can be guess work.

For the money I paid for it, it's better then OK.

Saw this couple months ago, the movable head looks a great improvement over the standard types.

I got a handheld one that looks a bit like Kram's youtube link image on a whim from aliexpress with a screen and 5m cable because it was 25 quid delivered in one of their flash sales. I have one for the laptop/phone but having to drag the laptop into place and set it up makes the job longer so I dont use it as much as I could, plus I risk breaking the more expensive laptop in a rough environment or peering at a tiny phone screen. Shed maths at work there.

Its not the steerable one as that was double the price, but it has two cameras, one for straight ahead, and one for looking backwards towards the cable which lets me look up towards chambers/valves when stuck into a plug hole. You just press a button on the unit to switch camera. Seems simple to me. It has the prisms on metal clips that go on the business end for looking at funny angles too.

Having used the draper one a few times now, it works and gives a nice clear picture but I can already see where a side facing camera or mirror would be an improvement- with one of the steerable heads having moved up my wish list. Problem is that I don’t have a real need for more than it does- and I have other tools on my shopping list..

I have the Draper one from Toolstation too.
It's been very useful over the last few weeks, it is a nice and clear picture and a decent size screen.
Just needs something to clip/ magnet, strap, as trying to use it and a tool and hold the screen is a juggling act!
