Bonser Fork Lift

Hi over the last few weeks we have been overhauling our Bonser fork lift.
Its not a restoration just work that has needed doing.
Unfortunately i don't have any photos from before we stripped it but some of the photos show the distressed paint from before.

This is the counter balanced all nicely painted up.

Yeah that and a lot of time.
Rear axle has been completely overhauled as the king pins were sloppy as hell.
Engine has had thrust washers on the crank,gearbox has been had the inners out of it which has the diff bolted to it.

looks like a david brown engine? whats the foreign matter on the gearbox/diff assy? all heavy work, good job!

I drove a Bonser side saddle years ago in a steel yard and it was the most horrible thing you could have sat on. The firm bought a load of Caterpillar V60B to replace the old stuff and they were like Rolls Royces in comparison

Yeah your right it is based mostly on a david brown tractor.
Getting parts has been a nightmare but she is nearly there now. Its all the jobs that take the time but need doing like securing hoses pipes and cables but hope to have her all finished by wednesday next week.
The foreign matter is just muck from lifting the box out. She got a thorough clean before going back in along with everything else that has been done.
The wire brush on the bench grinder has seen some work this week.
It has all had a coat of red oxide primer and at least two coats of the yellow.

Well a little update on the fork lift. We fired her up the other night to find no oil pressure.
So on investigating we found the cam shaft has stripped the oil pump drive teeth off. So new cam and drive. So we pulled the head off while we were on and found two badly seating valves and poor piston rings.
So she now needs the head sorting with new seats, re cut valves and a skim. New piston rings, new cam and drive for pump and a hone on the bores. Let's hope all is not lost were to far into it now.
I'll try and get some photos up tomorrow night.

Well here are a few pics from yesterday from making a new roof and a couple with more of the rest of the fork lift.

The little bit in the centre of the roof is a little bracket for the flashing light to sit flat on the roof.

Coming along nicely mounting the beacon on the roof is a bit vulnerable unless you put a cage round it, all ours at work are mounted below roof level as they are short lived on top!

Hopefully it will be ok. It's only for our breakers yard for moving cars around.

A little update, have got all the engine parts back yesterday, got the head rebuilt and the new rings on the pistons.
We've refitted the pistons after a good honing and got the new cam in.
Then today got the head refitted sump on and all the other boring stuff and fired her up.
Yey we have oil pressure ( as it was leaking oil at the oil filter ) i never got it fitted right.
Never mind she didn't run for long.
Anyhow with all the compression it now has we need a bigger battery to turn her over.
I'll try and get some progress pics up tomorrow.

Head off, Pistons out, broken rings, big end bearings wiped due to lack of oil, valve seats corroded due to open upward pointing exhaust. It's nearly ready to put back together. Will post some pictures.
