Boiler part help.....

Trying to source a part for a neighbour's [they have no internet] Camray 15-19 external boiler which I understand is now obsolete.

Searching the web, I found this thread on a site and have posted [mine's the last post on this thread]

asking for conformation re interchangeability of parts - Worcester are unable to help as all the Camray data has been erased from their system...... .

I know there are lots of knowledgeable folk on here and just wondered if anyone has any experience of this? I've found the part mentioned in brownbadger's post there, but it looks like he's not been on that forum for a while.

The only mention to the 15/19 is as an external boiler, but I don't appear to have any parts info in this book, and this is from 2000. It's not in their CD from 2003/2004 either, nor is it on the worcester CD. The 2008 Worcester CD seems to have some camray stuff on there, but not a 15/19.

Are you 100% sure it's a boulter buderas boiler? Could it be a Worcester Dansemoor 15/19 ?

Aye, details he gave me say "Boulter Model 15-19 External, Serial Nr 000964567. Camray 11 model 15/19".

He showed me the manual which is where the part # SC 08001C came from. It's the heat exchanger part 'Combustion Chamber Baffle c/w insulation' he's going to need.

just a word of warning. if you do fit a part from another boiler when the original parts are obsolete and its someone else's boiler, if anything goes wrong you will be hung drawn and quartered.

I've always found Worcester to be very helpful. I often phone the technical department for part numbers but if they carn't help I just ask to be put through to spares and they've not failed me yet! The phone number for technical is 0330 123 3366 I then use option 2 then 1. I think this is the direct line to spares 01905 752567 it may have changed now so apologies if it's wrong.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I'm not planning on touching the boiler - I'm just the 'good Samaritan with a PC' trying to source the bit. His service engineer told him at its annual service recently that the baffle box was on its way out and wouldn't last another year, so my neighbour's hoping to get ahead of the game.

Again, thanks for that. I think the girl did put me through to Technical, but I might have caught the guy on a bad day - a bit like "Computer says "No""......

I'll maybe give Spares a ring direct and see what they make of it.

Hi, as I understand it, it's the baffle - which has insulation covering it(?). I've not seen inside the boiler, but am going by the manual and the Owner's input.

The exploded parts schematic in the manual only seemed to show the brurner parts, with no diagram for the ancilliary bits.

Yep, still drawing a blank I'm afraid. The part number on that other page still comes up though used to be HE08450C. Worcester list is £130, but we pay <£100 for that part to give you an idea of the wiggle room a good merchant should have.

That said, my page on the Camray II still doesn't show the 15/19, just the 15/21 and the 41/48 and bigger. Most of these all have different part numbers for the combustion chamber baffles.

The manual part number I have is SC 08001C [taken direct from the owner's manual], and the part number quoted as being a replacement [and given by BrownBadger on the site] is 87161099450, which I've found for sale at numerous retailers in the £125/200 price range.

However, I don't really want to pass that info on to my neighbour, have him order one, then find out it doesn't fit......

This is beginning to look like a no-no, isn't it - although his boiler is c. 12 years old.

Don't like to say it, as it goes against the grain of my hatred of this throwaway world we live in, but...... at 12 years old, and the difficulties of trying to get a new part at 125 -200 quid, taken against a new more efficient boiler in the region of 500.

Personally I would be looking at the more efficient new boiler, unless it was a cheap repair. Which this doesn't seem to be, especially if he needs a certified engineer to install it, (add 60-100 quid for an hour)... all of a sudden that 500 quid new boiler is becoming more attractive..

£500 isn't going to get you a great boiler especially if you want a reliable one.

Not only that it's efficiency is 82% which isn't that bad and you certainly won't be getting the government boiler help allowance for a new one.

Hi Oil fired boilers are about £ 1500 plus vat. Baffles are loads cheaper £250 .

That wasn't the point, more that you get to a point where you can't get the part or you have to spend out a fair whack on something that is ages old, you have to look at it from an economic perspective, good money after bad.. better to cut your losses.

As for getting a simple gas boiler of this capacity for 500 quid, I'd agree that that woul definitly be bottom end of the market or entry level, but yes you can quite easily get them. Just type in low cost gas boilers or suchlike into google, there's quite a few dealers that can supply them at that price. Whether you consider them reliable or not is up to you, it could almost certainly be reasonably argued that it's more reliable than the one he has now and most likely come with a 2 year warranty. That for not much more money than a repair. After that you need to look at the rest of the equation, existing installation, existing efficiency runnng costs etc to decide if it's better to replace just the boiler or bite the bullet and revise the whole lot, not always an economic solution to spend 000's to save 00's.

Upinsmoke, the subject was gas boilers not oil, your quoting prices that aren't comparable.
