The local welding shop sells those loose, price makes your eyes water, I enquired about a box, but that was a leg, kidney & liver as well. Welded nicely though, as you say red or pink rods, perhaps someone was colour blind.I'm doing a bit of work at the moment with 3.2mm 6013 Bohler Blau (thought he rods are red!), they certainly flatter my poor welding.

Gonna say, you can't get much better than bohlerNo they’re ace, just wasted on a bodger like me!
I’ve been welding 25mm solid handrails on site today, overhead and vertical and almost no post weld cleanup needed.
I’ve got some of those I was given many years ago, damn great long things. I might use them someday.Vodex were pink, a great rod in their day.......
Where the sides of the boat are welded to the base there is normally about 1/2 inch of steel left overhanging to protect the welds from being worn away by constantly rubbing along the sides of the canal. As the boats are getting on a bit now that protective edge has worn down and in some cases the weld itself has been worn down, so the surveyors instruct us to weld additional steel section along the base weld to protect it.Sacrificial chin?
