Hi all.
I've had for a lot of years at home this Bohler Mig 160 Compact.
It must have been aimed at the car garage as it has a 12 volt charge/start facility
switch on the front panel.
It has been a fantastic little Mig set but yesterday while welding up some brackets for the Mezzanine floors in my garage workshop I turned to see smoke coming from inside the case.
I quickly turned it off and disconnected the mains just in case anything on the live side & removed the side panel to find its a small transformer.
I will till I know assume its for low voltage switching for contactors and the likes.
Does anyone else have this welder or know of a manual for it.
It is Single Phase 240v or Three Phase capable so can be powered either or.
I have searched the net but I can't find anything on it.
I've never seen one before I got it or after.
It used to have its own version of a Euro torch but the thread on the latter part was different and it had a long brass tube that went to the wire feed rollers for the guide. Luckily! A Euro torch socket was a straight forward fitment to the welder
The original torch also had the two trigger wires break out of the torch near the socket and a Molex plug connected to the socket you see next to it right side.
I just removed them from inside the welder and used a block connector to attach the euro torch wires fitted to the new socket.
In this picture you can see the old socket bottom right sat on the 3X2" timber.
The cheap crappy break if you dropped it torch was given to me by my supplier who bought them but wouldn't sell on when he realised that if dropped would just shatter into bits.
I have a Decent looking Parweld replacement when I drop this one.
In this picture I used microsoft paint to identify the location of the small transformer.
It got a little warm so hadn't totally gone into meltdown.
It may well being an old set need new capacitors as they may well be going off spec.
Its a case of repair or buy new.
Next pic is a close up of the faulty transformer with a red dot I put on to show it
Bit closer on the next pic.
I dare say the transformer itself isn't available any more but the spec may well be.
Just when I was getting close to finishing everything before the roof going on the workshop too.
Guess I'll just have to get the R-Tech Tig set out and use it as MMA.
So if anyone has any info on this set or better still a manual that maybe provides a wiring diagram, schematics or otherwise I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards
Fred.
