Body pannel welding

what size amps welder would people recomend for body pannel work as looking for a new/ second hand welder the one i have at the moment has a problem with the wire feed and its over 15 years old so looking for another So what would you recomend ?
ALL IT WILL BE WELDING IS BODY PANNELS AND LANDROVER CHASSIS
Carnt put a price on amount to spend wether £50 or£300 just need to know what amps i will need to do the job,,,john

I would expect you want something with 30 amps low end for your bodywork and at 130 top for the chassis although im not sure how thick it actually is. Some of the clarke models offer 25 amps but personally I dont notice the difference from 30 amps.

Alot of the cheapo migs on ebay etc might look value for money but the lowest they go is 50amps.. useless for bodywork.

EDIT: forgot to mention.. go for a gas model..

I've got the clarke 135te (can't remember amps) however it's suppose to weld upto 6mm No chance! I was struggling with 4mm. However! I'm not an expert welder! so maybe someone more 'knowledgeable' will know better.

I however, was able to weld 0.8mm steel 'lovely' so it's good for body work 'I promise' and It should work fine on aluminum also As for your chassis legs! I would suggest a 'better' or 'higher spec' Clarke welder, because if memory serves me right! their about 3mm. The outer box sections are thinner 'i think'.

I would suggest a visit to MM website and have a look through the range, I reckon 'if you go for a Clake one' the 150- or a similar/upwards model.
