body panel thickness

i just got bits of sheet metal to make some
patches to the wings and inner wings on my car.
now the sheet i have is 1.2mm thick but thickness
on wings and inner wings appear much thinner .

do i have to make my patches from the exact same thickness metal sheets or will 1.2mm be fine ?

The same metal thickness would be a good idea and is standard practice. The wings on your car could be as thin as 0.8mm, so if you think about it you would have problems welding 1.2mm steel to it.

Most motor factors sell sheets of car thickness steel for repair patching, 4ftx2ft is £10 near me.

Alternatively go to local scrap yard and get an old battered wing or bonnet to cut up, doubt they would charge more than a few quid if you picked one that was too tatty to sell.

nice tip there , i got a brand new pattern wing
for this very same car which is not a perfect fit .
i was planning to cut patches for my rusted wing sections
anyway ,now i know what to do with the rest
