Body filler

What body filler and fine filler do people recommend for car panel work? Doing some repairs to rusted metal on an old spitfire body and removing rusted metal and letting in new sheet, unfortunately my welding is still a work in progress so I generally need a skim of filler on top for finishing. Any advice on what filler to use and the general process? Thanks in advance.

if theres a chance of pin holes in the welds then use a fibre glass paste first to stop damp coming through from behind

for filler upol ultima or fantastic are good fillers

What steveo said. fantastic does exactly what it says on the tin. For top quality work, and because I'm old skool I often top it with reface.

I like U-pol easy....or Evercoat rage if I'm feeling spendy

Upol Fantastic is the best one I've used. Fantastic as it says.
Don't forget to use epoxy primer first on the body panels, then fill and shape and more epoxy primer where needed.

This is how I would go, there's is only one better than Fantastic and that's Rage but it's spendy, the Upol big easy has a habit of sinking and pin holing, a decent stopper is Top Stop gold or Dolphin glaze

Never got on with stoppers, the one part ones are c**p to use and sometimes react, and I rally can't see the advantage of Dolphin glaze over fantastic.....and it doesn't "self-level" whatever that means, .......even if I stare forcefully at it.

Yet a lot of people use stopper especially dolphin glaze. What am I doing wrong???

never really used stopper either , never had the need really

blow off the fillerwork with an airline and the 2k primer takes care of it , if theres defects then dab some more primer on with a brush or scrape some 2k filler in it

I agree about single pack stopper, it shrinks like mad but dolphin glaze is very good stuff, not sure why your not seeing it's benifits though.
There's a thread on here about leadwork but it's hardly done much these days because the modern fillers are so good.
