BOC prices again

Hi.
A quick question. I have had a BOC account for a number of years and primarily use Pureshield Argon bottles size W. We have recently spoken with a friend who seems to be paying a lot less than us.
We collect the bottles from the nearest depot and a bottle lasts approx 8 weeks.

Cylinder price, £91.03, with vat =£109.24.
Environment charge with vat =1.15.
Fixed charges with vat = £17.28
Billing total = £127.67
Pureshield Argon size W rental =£11.82

How do these prices compare with other account holders? I have a feeling that we've been paying too much!

Those prices look to me like you should tell BOC what to do with their argon.

Why not approach BOC and tell them you want same pricing as your friend or you will need to find another supplier? Your gas cost is over 3 times what I pay.

I was going to suggest your friend might be on the Volkszone offer/scheme, but then remembered that [iirc] it only applies to the Y size bottles.

Def worth approaching BOC to renegotiate 'though.

Thanks for the replies. It's frustrating as a few years ago I contacted BOC and they were quite firm and abrupt when the prices were mentioned. Since then I've been working away in the workshop at home and assumed that the prices were fixed.

The boss (my wife) is looking forward to the phone call tomorrow, and I will update this thread with the outcome.

Well we eventually spoke with the sales department and our new bills will be as follows;

Cylinder price, £91.03, with vat =£109.24. Now before vat is £36.00!!!!
Environment charge with vat =1.15.
Fixed charges with vat = £17.28 Now zero!!!!
Billing total = £127.67
Pureshield Argon size W rental =£11.82 Now £7.20.

I feel slightly peeved off that they were charging the high prices for so long, but on a positive note, the prices are right down now. I don't feel any allegiance to BOC as there are no doubt quite a few other people paying the high prices, so I have no problem with showing the new prices here.
