Because I use quite a bit of Argon then BOC is a lot cheaper for me.
I get a 33l @ 300 bar cylinder, so 9.99m³, for £51.62 plus £17.28 fixed charge and rental of £10.60/month
The fixed charge is a single charge no matter the amount of cylinders I have in the month unless of course it is none. So if I have one cylinder in that month I pay £17.28 fixed but this month I will have 4 cylinders and it is still £17.28.
So if we go on a single cylinder per year then I will be
£51.62 + £17.28 + £127.20 = £196.10
Now compare that to the Hobbyweld price above.
Cylinder rental is £110 for 20l and £110 for refill (pure Argon) so on the face of it Hobbyweld would cost me more the first year but after it would be cheaper.
That however is wrong because the Hobbyweld is only half the volume of my E33 BOC cylinders so for the same gas for 1 year Hobbyweld is 2x £110 plus £110 rental and then every year after that it would be 2 x £110 and thus still dearer every year.
Now if you consider I will go through at least 8 or 10 cylinders per year then BOC is massively cheaper for me.
So to calculate on 10 refills.
BOC = 10 x £52.62 plus fixed charge, I will assume I have 1 cylinder in any given month, so 10 x £17.28 plus rental of 12 x £10.60 = total of £816.12
Hobbyweld = 20 x cylinders (same volume of 10 BOC) = £2200 plus £110 rental first year so total £2310 or second year £2200.
So to recap 10m³ per year
BOC = £196.10
Hobbyweld =£330 or £220 if second year.
10 of 10m³ of gas
BOC = £816.12
Hobbyweld = £2310 or £2200 second year.
