BOC or MUREX or other?

Hi guys, New to the forum.
I am planning on buying an Oxy-Acetylene welding set next week.
ive had a good search and cant find any answer.
basically ive been looking at what set would be best to buy.
i need a complete set by the way.

ive got around £250 to spend excluding bottles and tend to buy the best i can afford.

ive been looking at the Murex supAcet and also a BOC set in my local BOC.

now they appear almost identicle in appearance but is there any difference that i should be aware of?

ive found the Murex kit at £225 delivered and the BOC at £260

it will be mainly used for welding my mini and any other future projects.
ive been attending a nightclass for 9 weeks (1 night per week)
and have managed to do everything fairly easily so far, i also find oxy welding quite relaxing.

so all in all im looking for any advice or reviews of both kits to help me decide which to buy? or if there are any other kits to look out for?

Welcome to the site

Its not buying the kit at 260-00 that the problem its the running costs, try looking into the prices for the bottles (which are not included in the kit) and refill costs............


I'd be looking at a mig set up for car work, may cost more to start with but will saveee you loads in the long run..............

ive looked into the bottle prices and yes they are expensive but for a versatitlity of a gas setup
welding, brazing, heating, cutting i think its not too bad
we actually do have a mig setup but as i have no power to my garage i cant use it

If you can do away with the welding part of your list all the rest can be done with propane as a fuel gas, possible cost saving????

I had thought of that but ive not got power in the garage so need the welding capabilities.

and i did try the inverter welder tig machines but didnt get on with it.

ah well ive bought the Murex setup now
