BOC Gases

What sort of impact has the clousure of quite alot of BOC centers had.I have noticed on the forum that a few of you welders are struggling to get gas

Think most get gas from agents, not centres. Sounds like if lots closed going to be much more difficult to sort out good deals for gas though?

No issue I changed from a centre to an agent. The agent works and don't take an hour lunch and shut down the premises

Agent also told me some of the mistakes boc make on billing I checked and yep they owed me money

It`s about time that the price of rental,and the gas was taken to task

What have you got against BOC?

I've known a couple of people have billing mistakes, when discussed they were refunded with no hassle at all.

I have nothing about BOC.They had the monopoly in gas,now they are are suffering,and have all sorts of financal problems.Therefore closing numerous sites,leaving end users in the lurch

To be fair I think it's the old paying peanuts and getting monkeys - try and change that within a loss making firm

About 10 years ago after endless problems with my then gas supplier, I decided to change over. Even then it was almost impossible to get to speak to someone who wasnt simply going to recite list prices over the phone.

After some while on the phone I got hold of the number of local BOC centre. Phoned them and was able to speak to a manager, who sorted out a very good deal in about 15 minutes.

BOC local agent is very helpful, and BOC themselves a good deal better than all the gas suppliers I have used in the past.

Downside of local centres closing I guess is that its now difficult/impossible to speak to anyone interested in providing anything other than retail prices to low volume users.....................?

To be fair the right way forward for the buisness is one price for all - like it or lump it

Make the price viable but reasonable. No silly deals to big users no rip off prices to small guys
To do otherwise don't work for customers robbing Peter to pay Paul is so last century now
It's not like there are 50 competitors

Thats not how it works. If a gas supplier charged the same price to someone renting say 3 bottles, as they did to someone with 300, I would guess they would be out of business pretty quickly!

Nothing to stop low volume users working together and establish a co-operative, which may well be able to negotiate lower gas prices for all members?

But it's not unless there is real competition - which there isn't. More than one way to skin the appeasement cat
