boc gas bottle valves

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!bottles ran down quickly !checked for a leak on the bottle valve and theres one ,
Bottle uses a round twist knob ,which i tapped lightly with a copper hammer and leak stopped.
Question is does this happen a lot ?am i better getting one with the square spanner shutoff valve.?

hi get a washing up liquid bottle with a very slightly dilluted mix in it about 20mm or so ,shake well then with the valve turned off squeeze over the regulator then turn on the valve and if theres any leaks you will see large bubbles coming from the leak point ,then simply experiment with tightening the regulator tapping etc! but yes if all else fails new regulator .....,,, iv seen ptfe used on the regulator threads but this is dodgy so i never told you ...wink wink

As many as 1 in 3 of the bottles I've hired from BOC have something wrong with them, leaky valves and cracks in the seat where regulators have been overtightened.

They'll swap them for new if you take them back, but the faulty bottles don't seem to be marked as such and just go back in the cage for refilling. So you've probably got one of my old ones.

suppose i just assumed ASS u ME the mother ov all f**k ups !that the boc bottle valve works!gonna have to check by ear,washing up liquid etc?,what should the full bottle contents register on reg !might even take my reg with me to check this.

Gr8 news spoke to boc ,as the new bottle i just picked up waz showing 200 rather than the max fill ov 230.
Said thed replace my old leaky one (normally only refund within 2wks).foc and give me some leak detection spray.Tested bottle on suppliers reg and yep waz reading 200 ,grabbed another reading waz 215 .Presuming allowing for tolerences in reg,temp etc that would do.
Faulty one waz just thrown back into cage and not marked up ,be testing mine in future with leakspray and reg to check bottle contents.
