You don't say what you are using the gas for. Welding with propane is a big no, but it does fine for cutting an heating.
However, you must have the correct two piece nozzles, ordinary acetylene ones don't work right.
And it isn't quite as nice to use as acet and you use more oxygen... but it can be cheaper for some jobs.

I see. Well I recall getting propane to work through a welding torch (with difficulty) some time ago but would certainly go for acetylene!

as i said it works but isnt realy succesfull .theres no substitute for having acetylene

Doesn't oxy/propylene and oxy/MAPP have a similar flame temperature to acetylene?

It's not about flame temperature (acetylene is a few hundred degrees higher than MAPP or propane, all are well over 1000C higher than the melting point of steels), it's to do with shielding of the weldpool and the spread of heat within the flame

With oxy acetylene the outer/secondary flame consumes O2 from the surrounding air and the weldpool is 'bathed' in CO2. Acetylene is, AFAIK, pretty much unique in this respect. Acetylene also produces more heat energy (BTUs, kJ etc) in it's primary flame than anything else but significantly less heat in it's secondary i.e. the heat is more focused. Oxy propane actually produces more heat overall despite being ~300C cooler but the majority of it is in the secondary flame so try to weld with it and you struggle to focus the heat and oxidise the weldpool

I was going to say that, I just couldn't think how to word it. It's like how a warm bath has more heat but is less hot than a just boiled kettle because of this it is better for preheating and heating to bend or forge.

Only planning to use the oxy propane for heating, and light duty brazing.

I've seen similar set ups that work, just don't understand why mine doesn't work.

I use oxy propane for silver soldering, but an acetelene welding nozzle is very fussy to light, and obviously not suitable, is there a nozzle for small oxy propane heating jobs for a 5 type torch ?

Don't know about a type 5 torch but with the help of some experienced people on here I've been taught how to light and set the flame correctly. I can confirm that it definitely works!

I'm gonna need a bottle of oxygen soon, if I phone the shop and mention weld a little, save a lot will they know what I mean or is there another name for it?

I doubt it, so it would be better - and probably quicker - to phone head Office on the 0800 number. Any paperwork would then be filled in by them before being faxed through to your local depot/collection point.
