After well over a year, there has finally been a conclusion for a 'hobby' use Argon deal.

It is being but in the 'Volkszone' group, so essentially just ask about the Volkszone Argon deal when you ring BOC.

Here it is folks :

Refill - £30 excl Vat
Surcharge - £1.92 excl VAT
Yearly Rent - £54 excl VAT
NO PICKUP CHARGE !!

BOC are going to monitor the deal so if no one goes for it then it may get pulled, hopefully it will become popular with hobby tig welders.

Good work indeed, I was having a hard time deciding if keeping the argon was affordable, as i use it so rarely - but without it you can't do those little jobs that just come up - or practice!

By the way, is there already an argoshield deal like this in place?

I jumped the gun and went for a X sized bottle from SIG gas on Monday!
£58 pa & £31 per fill, which isnt too bad, but this deal would have been nice!


This seems like a very nice offer! Is the surcharge applied for each fill or...?

What volume are the bottles? I get my mig gas is a 20L bottle.
The different ways of measuring the gas is confusing.

FranV8, i am in the same boat as i thought the deal would have been done much quicker and i have about 3/4 of a W bottle to use up first as well.

Hopefully this will continue like the argoshield, just get the info out there as the more popular it is, the longer it will continue !

And for those that are not sure about the sizes etc, the Y cylinder is 20L with about 4.7m3 of gas.

Well done Many thanks - looks a decent saving from their normal argon deal, but a shame they didn't lower bottle rental costs as much as for the argoshield. It's bottle rental that stings the occasional user.

I've added a sticky at the top of the shielding gas section linking to this thread and the various other offers.

For my usage (bottle every couple of years) I'm better off with rent free argon.

Thats a fantastic saving,buyt what is this pick-up charge?I collect my W argoshield and oxy bottles at a depot,do they charge me for this or is the pick-up fee if they come and collect your empty?

Back when the forum first heard about the Volkszone deal i did have a chat with Justin about both argon and oxy acetylene but back then the line was we'll have to how the argoshield deal goes first. I'll mention acetylene and flamepak 20 to Katie. Cheers again.

Repair man, some agents are open at weekends. Of the 5 that the store finder spits out for my postcode one is open 0830 - 1500 Saturdays

Mode there's the gas price, rental price, fixed charge (collection or delivery) and environmental surcharges. The fixed charge is per transaction i.e. one price to collect one cylinder or 20 and the same for delivery (except it's more expensive unsurprisngly). The surcharge is used to track energy costs and is per cylinder for most flavours (per kg for propane IIRC)
It's all broken down on invoices and explained in more detail on their site somewhere

Good work Shady, that is a good deal in my eyes and I will be taking my rent free bottle back to by local over priced supplier when it is empty.

Fifty quid a year rental is great, I used to spend almost that much a month on a smart phone contract.

Mode1 the pickup charge is normally applied to all cylinders from BOC, but like the original volkszone offer for argoshield, they have waived the pickup charge for the new argon deal as well and its cheaper for rent and fill as well !

Seems odd that they have set a different hire charge for the Argon compared to the mix.
