Boc arc welder faulty

was given an old boc Transarc AC330 arc Welder 415

Soon as switch on it trips the fuse board , are these things worth trying to get repaired , or just scrap ?

How big is the MCB? The inrush on that old beast will be massive!

not sure mate, it was tried at my mates unit. was just the blue plug on it, not 3 phase, switched it on and it just triped the mcb straight away. its been sitting for a while, wasnt sure if it was working not.

think am going to weigh it in, its now at the house, unable to test it.

More info in pic , my mate has 3 blue plug connection in unit , the mig was switched on , connected the boc arc and it tripped the mcb

looking on line it said needs a 32 supply but can be changed to 240v ? but again would need a big supply

I wouldn't be surprised if there was nothing wrong with it, my 180A Oxford will take out a 32A household MCB on start-up on 240V, that beast needs over 100A supply on 240v

The wiring at the welder needs to be checked as well
N to 0v
L1 to 230V
Maybe wired wrong and effectively shorting the supply

I recently aquired a boc 180 that can run 6kva at either 240/400/440 single phase
I.e N + L1, or L1+L2

By your data plate, it takes 52A at 230V to run @150A all day long,
So off a 32A breaker you might get 90A or so if the surge doesn't trip the breaker.
113A for the full 330A, that's a lot of power,
What a beast!

it can take a 32amp b type breaker out just being turned on

A 63A supply plug is probably a minimum for it at 230V (beefy cable as well)
I haven't powered my 180 yet, but am curious to see if it might have less inrush with the dials to off or at the lowest amp settings.
Might get a chance to try it tomorrow

if its transformer based arc it will take a breaker out or pop a 13amp fuse just plugging it in . mine does

I’ll put it up in the sale section first , no way I can get to test it , sounds like it would’ve been a good machine. Thanks for the help
