Ah didn't realise you meant the Haynes book of lies. Haynes reckons that my megane hasn't got any wiring at all for the interior lighting or the keyless entry system

Hmmmmm, the company that currently insure the Alfa, and insured my megane for 3 years want a touch over 4k to insure a standard 323ci...best have a look around for some cheaper quotes, if I can't get it for less than a ton a month then it's a no go

Not expecting too much, just want something relatively comfy that is happy to slide about a bit, plus I want a biggish engined car to try and bring my insurance down a bit for the future. Have found a quote for a 323ci that is 82 a month if I wait until Feb and use my 4 years ncb and make the missus insure the Alfa ( which she will have to do if she wants to keep it)

With the earlier e36 anyway,the only difference between the 323 and 325 was a restrictive inlet manifold to derate the engine.not sure bout the e46 but probably the same thing innit

About the same, but from what I've heard there's a lot involved to uprate the 323 to 325 spec.

Well, I have had a bit of playing around with insurance quotes and although it initially did t look good, I have now got to the point where I have 3 companies willing to insure me in a 328i for less than £100 a month, or a 330i for £103 a month which has made me question my current insurer as I am currently paying £94 a month for a diesel Alfa 147 with 110bhp

I was happy paying 56 a month for my megane and then though buying an Alfa was a good idea. Same power and size as the megane but it has an Alfa badge on it. If I was driving a fiat with the same engine it would be 41 a month...just been looking at specs and comparing the 323 and 330...from what I can fine most info says mpg is roughly the same for both cars but 323 is 170bhp and 330 is 230bhp and has a lot more torque too. If I can save enough for a 330 then that will be the one I go for considering the insurance isn't much more than my Alfa and as I'm looking for a toy the 330 fits the bill a bit better. took my brother out in my Alfa earlier to the same bit of road we took his 320 as he did t believe that a front wheel drive car could slide around bends/roundabouts and as it was wet anyway I thought I would show him what the Alfa is capable of. ...still not a patch on his bmw though for that sort of fun.
I have even convinced my missus that she needs to learn lift off oversteer as this Alfa is really nervous in the wet and the second you aren't concentrating it tries to come around. Previous owner said the guy he bought it off had fiddled with it a bit but no idea what he has done as it all looks standard

Tyres are good, brand new nearly and non directional. In the dry it handles like it is on rails, slightest bit of moisture on the ground and it's like driving on ice.
Ride height is unchanged from standard although I have been thinking of dropping it 20mm and the geometry looks ok but obviously sight isn't the best way to check that...
I'm happy with it being twitchy but I have been actively over steering for the last 6 years when it's safe to do so and I can correct most slides. Only actually spun something that I purposely initiated twice and that was before I learnt that planting the throttle
Usually straightens it back out again, I used to just try and steer it back into line but that doesn't always work.
I have just found that axa will insure me in a 2002 330i for £80.72 a month...£14 less for a car that is twice as powerful and 6 times as expensive as my Alfa

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with insurance quotes now so am stopping for the night...even with my missus as a named driver on a 330i and declaring that it's lowered and has aftermarket alloys and declaring a non fault claim for £600 2 years ago it is still 3 quid a month cheaper than the Alfa, and I have got quotes for the Alfa with my missus as main driver and me as named driver for 58 a month and she hasnt got any ncb either, I have 3 years at the moment and can't get a quote for less than 94 a month. Doesn't make sense, especially when I put her as main driver on the 330 and it rockets to 6,300 a year!!!

£280 per year to insure.
Swapped vehicles around, got rid of my fast cars and got fast bikes and a van.
Got a little "shopping trolley" for the school run etc as we don't really need two full sized vehicles.
1.6l Diesel Peugoet 206Gti, 110BHP.
£270 per year to insure!
It's all about who else drives that model and how often they crash.
Recently sold it and have been getting by with the van (5 seat VW T5 Combi).
Reading this thread has made me start looking at 330i E46 Sports on the EBay!

Bikes are a good one for me, similar thing with others my age not riding them...1200 bandit at 19 years old £380 a year, or an er6 at the same age for £650 a year...
Going to try and get money together for a 330 by end of January when my Alfa policy expires then tell the missus she can insure the Alfa and sign it over to her. I'll buy a bmw and insure it in my name and still see a fairly big saving.
Also noticed that having an IAM certificate means absolutely nothing. I did mine 2 years ago as I thought it dropped insurance but even if I Untick the box for it, the price stays exactly the same.

I'm not bothered with bikes for he moment, it's going to start getting wet and slippery soon and I've had enough of being wet and cold all day after riding to work. Would rather get there in a warm comfy car now lol

I get upset if I have to pay more then £100 a year to insure my bike
