The thing finally seems to be working okay now that I've replaced the tubing with a length of OEM tubing. Bit of a poor design though. The tubing is not the most flexible of stuff, and there's no place on the frame to lash it, so it's begging to chafe over time on the edge of the tank. Ended up cutting and slitting a short piece of the tubing to sleeve over it, and packing a piece of the insulation behind it too, where it passes the edge/corner of the tank.
