Blown Concrete Fence Post

This is another one just taken. The overlapping, 2'x1's, are in there tight. I imagine during the winter they would swell considerably. Expansion is looking a possible cause then.

Tbh if there's no reinforcing in the nib then I'm half considering re-shaping the timber to allow for expansion with a shoulder or chamfer and sticking the loose concrete bits back on with CT1, Gorilla Glue etc.

If it comes to dragging them out would a Manitou telehandler do it I wonder?

Yes, I'm sure it would.
I use a mini-digger to lift them out.

Reckon maybe the wood was in there too tight and as you say has expanded out....or could have just been a flaw in the original post Personally just seal it and trim the wood back. Screwfix do a cheap breaker...I have little use for them so I generally buy them for the job and then sell them on for half price!

If you want it out (with minimum disruption to surrounding area) then a cheap breaker is a good bet I think...assuming it was postcrete in the hole.

For the ultra cheap creative approach to removal I have removed post stumps and their concrete base just lifting it out by hand.

Admittedly the hand was operating the pump lever on an engine crane but it did the job.
Once it was out I broke it up with a sledgehammer

Postcrete, I've never used it.

I put these in with probably 4 or 5:1 all in ballast / cement with added waterproofer. They were put in to stay in.

Until I take a wooden panel out and see what's what, I won't really know what I'm up against. I'm going to fit 300mm concrete gravel boards this time.

Bit of a pita with my lad being ill and the whole Covid thing in the house. Otherwise I'd have asked my nephew to grab me some gravel boards from the local merchants with his flat bed truck.

Postcrete, I've never used it.

Its really good stuff - designed to do a job basically...saves a heap of time as it goes of very quick so you can stick posts in all day and not worry about props and bracing etc. I was speaking to a handyman once who was telling me his insane pricing for a fence...when we got down to why it was so expensive....well basically he was putting in 1 post a day!

But the big advantage is when you have to get the post out again...breaker makes light work of postcrete.

I had to change 3 rotten fence posts recently, got the concrete ball out ok, but too heavy to do anything with. Tried breaking it up with a lump hammer & chisel, no joy, it just bounced off, so I resorted to an air chisel, that broke them up in minutes. I’ve never used it for what you would call “normal“ use, but it’s magic for removing wall tiles, I’ve cut concrete blocks & demolished a breeze block wall with it.

If you want to change them, wrap a chain around the tractor's 3 point linkage, it'll pop them out like corks from a bottle.
Also, if you want to fit gravel boards, you can get them with a hole for wildlife now which would please SWMBO.
