Blast cabinet problems.

Well I've come to a stop with my drawers. Done 37 out of 54. The four nozzles that came with the gun have worn to over twice the original bore and Instead of doing a drawer in 15 minutes, they take an hour are I seem to have lost a lot of media velocity due to the large bore. I have plenty of pressure and air volume though. I've ordered 10 new 5mm nozzles and I hope they're not made of chocolate. Has anyone ever tried using acatate film and double sided tape for the sacrificial windows, instead of paying loads for the proper ones. See, I'm learning to be a tight wad by reading your posts. Since Nitromors doesn't remove the skin off a rice pudding anymore, Any thoughts on a good paint stripper please.

In my experience it's just as cheap to replace the glass as it is to mess about with plastic sheet assuming yours is glass and not plastic in the first place.

just replaced my glass one it just sits on on some angle and gunned round with silicone .it lasts a long time before visibility is bad and quick to take out and replace I never bother with acetate as its a pain in the ass and don't last long

How long does the glass in your cabinet last.

Just stuck my last sheet of acetate on it and I'm finished with all my car its for now but for future going to need something.

I don't mind a little inconvenience , Just looking for most economical to be honest.

Good paint stripper is available from car body shop suppliers

I use A3 laminating sheets run through the laminator.
Cheap as chips and just stuck on with duct tape.
I must be getting old and blind because changing them makes a huge difference to me. As does better light.
I went overboard a while back and installed a cellophane roll in front of the screen and it works a treat.

Are you using the ceramic nozzles and a suction gun?
Do your self a favor and get a tungsten nozzle.
A pressure pot would be a huge improvement for the work you are doing as well.
It will speed it up no end.

I am using the ceramic nozzles. The cabinet came with 4 different ones from 4.5mm to 7mm. I bought the blast cabinet cheap as it didn't work and all that was wrong with it was a nut stuck up the suction pipe. I only wanted it for some small kart parts then I had brain fade during lockdown and decided I'd strip this cabinet drawers. I also forgot to factor in that shops would be closed. I like your take on the cellophane rollers. I've only got 17 more to do so I think I can manage with acetate or similar. Are tungsten tips expensive? I don;t know of I could get one to fit my gun.

I found the key is good dust extraction - if you get a good extractor with plenty of suction you can minimise much of the abrasive bounce back onto the window which will drastically extend its lifespan

What are the ceramic nozzles like?
If you have, or know someone with a lathe they could run one off in steel which would last your job.

I don't know anything about suction guns, I never used the one that came with my cabinet.
But I might have a few nozzles and if they are the same I'll send them to you.

I use a boron carbide nozzle, they are extremely long lived

I use a sheet of clear perspex, double-wrapped in clingfilm (keep it taut to stop the wrinkles). The clingfilm will end up in tatters eventually but if you replace it when it gets a bit 'crispy' then the perspex won't get frosted for a long time.
Tungsten blast nozzle for my Guyson was 30 quid over a decade ago, but if you drop it, it won't shatter, so it's worth the expense for that alone.
I have a long-reach steel one that I turned up to get into dark corners of suspension arms and the like.

if u haven't the proper ones you can make them out of carbon steel and harden them

The original nozzle on mine is still working fine, It was used when I got it and I have put at least 100kg for media into it (it's a recirculating cab so must have used 10x that)
I presume its something tough but unless the cheap nozzles are a pound a piece i would splash out on a decent one again.

I have the safety glass on the front of mine and it would be a mission to change it out so I got a sticker making place to cut me a load of clear sheet (under 1mm thick) no idea what it is, acetate maybe? I spent an hour putting double sided foam tape around the edges and just stick it to the glass.
When I change it there is no dust on the glass so saves time cleaning it up.
Worked out about £5 a sheet, if I was doing it again I might make up a frame to sit inside the glass so I could just slide a bit of thin perspex in there or do something really fancy with a roll of clingfilm on a holder one side of the window and a shaft on the other side that rotates slowly whenever the foot pedal is pressed so there is always a clean view?

If you are careful with the spray you can get the glass/cover to last a long time but for most jobs I like to set everything on max and blast as much as i can without rotating the part so i dont get very ling out of a protector at all.

just stick mine in with silicone can cut It out in 5 mins. covering with acetate the visibility is crap in 20 minutes not worth the bother . u just drop a new piece of glass in and it lasts months
