HI just got a new blackline mig inverter only to be told the amp and voltage dials only work once the machine is under load, sounds like a load to me ! what do we make of it on here?
many thanks jim
Hi David obviously something is as it should be, just disappointing really,,,,,,,,still just treat it as if it hasn't got any dials and set it up the old fashion way trial and error ....lol regards Jim
Hi I've been in touch and it is as you say really, I suppose you could say it's fit for purpose "if it works that is" just that the dials are as much use as a chocolate fire guard, would have been better to leave them off,,,,,,oh well we'll have to wait until it's run up to see how it performs!
It is a bit of a pain as you can't see the display either once the arc starts, or at least I couldn't. If it helps I videoed mine at various settings and also calculated various wire speed settings, there will likely be differences between machines but it may give you a starting point.
A lot of older machines only work this way, even high end ones. The idea behind them is to verify your settings to a requirement - ie weld procedure stating x amps and y volts.
Decent quality inverters will display preset voltage and even preset amps, if its smart enough. Really good inverters will drive as much power as necessary to maintain exact volts, rather than drooping, as well.
To be very honest , I can weld all day and never actually look at any dials , the machines working well , and welding well , I dont really care about what would be on the dials , If I need it turned up , I turn it up .
You will be grand.
