Ok managed to get a couple of pics of the proud parents at 6 am this morning they had prob been at work a couple of hours already tho
That's a sparrow in the gutter btw lots of those too
This is one of last years batch, we have about three nesting pairs in the barn that return every year. They were late back this year for some reason but are very bust atm doing catch up
I have had to jamb wood between the beams to stop the young falling into the stables, not lost one since.
There is a bird in the conny hedge somewhere that has learned the ringtone of my phone and the gate ringer, I could definitely wring its neck. Only joking
We have several bird feeders, and every morning, out I go, shovelling seed into all of them. It’s costing us a fortune, but watching all the birds feeding, then bringing their young along, is rewarding.
Taking the bin to the gate last week, I caught a colourful shape on the driveway out the corner of my eye. Turned out to be a lovely little bird, who must have got caught in the strong winds, and ended up at the front of the house. Separated from the parents, who I could hear in the back garden, it just sat there, in this totally new territory. I picked it up, and took it through to the bird table, but it wouldn’t get off my hand. It just sat there shouting at mum and dad, as they shouted the same call back. Finally it hopped off, and all were reunited.
I also think we have the oldest pair of pigeons in history. They both wobble along, one looks incredibly scruffy, with his downy feathers all on show, and his partner’s wings droop down alarmingly.
Droopy wing stopped appearing a couple of weeks ago, and I feared for the wost. Turns out they must have had a clutch of eggs, as she finally started showing up in the evening. Poor scruffy has taken to having a sleep early morning on top of the mound of seeds. Poor fellow seems knackered.
As to our cat. Well, when he appears, they all stop, watch him walk past, then continue eating.
You people who feed the birds ,? Don't you get annoyed when the pigeons get involved
Mind you you wouldn't get a pigeon on a tit nut feeder thingy
I'm just imagining a bird table with 50 pigeons on it

Ours are Wood pigeons, slightly up the scale from your common or garden town pigeon. We can have up to five hanging desperately to our flimsy bird feeder stand. They have also learned how to eat out of the seed feeder meant for the small birds.
By the by, the juvenile sparrows attack the pigeons to get the best feeding positions.
From a campsite I was at near Lauder at the weekend, in the overhang of the amenities block. the dawn chorus around there was loud. Wood pigeons I think.
Around home there are around 12 Magpies, and they are noisy. Make a sound like a rasping machine gun.
