If making stuff to get galvanised, will the acid dip, pre zinc dip, remove the mill scale on tube, or must it be bright steel?

Black is fine. The acid cleans all the crap off

I mean it should be fine, some galv places are better than others. Some are lazy and don't dip the part long enough in the acid so the cleaner it is when it goes the better chance it has of coming out good. Having said that I don't do anything more than I would to paint and have never had an issue yet.

As said, if done properly the acid dip will remove the millscale.
