Black oxide

Hi everyone

Do I need to remove the black oxide and take to bare metal on some new box section gates I’ve welded up before applying zinc phosphate primer?

If you want the paint to stay on, then yes.

It is best, but costs time & money, but a powder coated or well painted job will last many years, however galvanizing is the best.

do you mean the mill scale? if so then yes, you will need to remove it befroe any other coatings are applied...
