Do you have a model in mind to replace the Leaf?
It’s a strange one, but maybe it has something to do with the old, and now new, later mandate for stopping production of ice engined cars - said persons can’t argue with the g.ment so you cop it instead. Of course you will defend your position and extols the virtues etc, and on it goes. It’s maybe the taking away of choice that’s at the heart of it. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but there sure as hell are a lot of them out there, and taking away peoples choice breeds it.

The tuba is a really awkward shape, it won't even go in the Ranger pickup with the roller shutter closed which means sodding around with a tarp several times a week at this time of year.

Sounds about right. I've used public transport in several countries around Europe and most put the UK to shame.
I think your other thoughts may be similar to mine…..big difference to europes public transport and ours……age of infrastructure. i have got the MG5 and i find it good car (esp with the public sector discounts they do) it would be nice if it had a longer load space, with both front seats back there is about 5ft of usable space in the back. and to make the back seats go flat the lower seat cushions do lift out.We took the Nissan Ariya out for a test drive. In my local town loads of people complain there's not enough buses, but the few times I have used them they are empty. They're not a charity, they won't run a service of it doesn't get used. Even a 10am Saturday bus into town had justme and one other guy on it.I spent a little time out in Hong Kong back in the mid noughties.
Car ownership was considered very much a luxury.
However the transport system was so good it made car ownership pretty much irrelevant.
As soon as you stepped off the plane you bought an octopus card (equivalent of an oyster) and loaded on some money in the airport - then you could go anywhere in the city for a few pence on their heavily subsidised transport network.
Tap to enter trains, busses, taxis. Everything was bright clean and spotless, no manky cloth seats with dubious stains.
Everything ran to time literally to the second, with a countdown timer, bus schedules were arranged so they left you enough time to get off the train, get to the stop and board the bus. Delays were almost unheard of.
Everything flowed and was arranged logically and signed so well I could understand it despite not being able to read it. Escalators ran at manic speed.
I was staying on the outskirts in quite a rural area, and getting around was still ridiculously easy.
Banks, shops and amenities opened after normal working hours so you could do everything of an evening after work.
Soon as I flew back, I tried to get a train back from Heathrow, ended up with two changes, different operators, different tickets, one had a 2 hour delay.
Finally got back to local train station, had to get a lift home as no bus route.
Moral of the lesson - if you want people to use public transport, simply make it so good, so cheap and so easy to use that it makes any other form of transport entirely pointless.
I'm not saying it is easy, but it isn't rocket science. I'm sure one could do quite a bit with a spare 25 billion or so.
Indeed so. The roar from the M4 drove me away years ago as it got busier and busier. I was passed by a Tesla the other day when walking - sounded exactly the same as the other cars driving past.
