Cheers for that @bR39Da I could never remember that I wish I did more Tig work it's all scratch start at the moment as my hf is down. I think I need to add less filler as I still dab like there's no tomorrow and pick up the pace a bit more. All tips are welcome I'm still quite a beginner when it comes to Tig
Rules of thumb are ok if you’ve no idea what so ever where to start but in reality they can be miles out.
Joint configuration changes everything by a lot.
An open outside corner would not be easy using suitable current for a fillet joint and vicer verca.
Use your rule of thumb for the butt joint which is around 35amps per 1mm roughly. Add 5-10 for a fillet and and subtract 5-10 for an outside corner and you’ll not be a million miles away. Now this is all to a point. You would not weld a 10mm fillet joint with 450 amps. For 1 wrong process but more importantly you’d need a lump of 5mm bar to fill it so you would set it to the limit of your filler size and multi pass it. So a 10mm fillet joint if it must be tig welded would probably be done with 200 amps a 2.4 filler and a boat load of runs to get the leg length.
