The 160tm is a straight gas only machine, there's no way of changing the polarity for gasless wire....unless you know something Clarke doesn't?

After having a read up on here, i`ve gone with the clarke 160tm from weldequip here with quick delivery & helpful advice 
. One thing I did`nt realise & thought could/should of been mentioned, is they don`t come supplied with a plug so I had to go buy one before using it 
.

They're not supplied with a 13A plug because they're not supposed to be used with one.

They'll normally run Ok on a standard 13A plug but you may find the fuse might pop occasionally if it's run flat out for along periods, you won't do any damage as the fuse is the weakest link.
Use a branded plug and decent quality fuse and you'll be fine.

mr weldequip states that it'll run off 13amp, and as wozzaaah says it should be fine, however the actual technical spec calls for a 16amp supply, just don't start using bolts if the fuses in the 13amp blow haha..

M@tt, thanks for the PM, you are a true gent. Just put my order in on MachineMart and you saved me about £70 which made it much more affordable and will leave me enough gap in my £400 quid budget to buy a small refil canister.
For about £360 delivered, I managed to get:
I've lined up a refill bottle of Argon/Co2 mix from Morse Welding Supplies in Yeovil to start with. It's about £34 + VAT for the first year's rental (£16) and the first fill up (£18). They reckon is is the eqivilent of about 8 disposable cans.
Really pleased. Thanks for all the help.

- Red Welding Gauntlet
- Clarke CWH6 Arc Activated Welding Headshield
