Bing bong - car not calling

The instrument panel speaker has packed up in my Audi so I don't get any bings or bongs when I do something daft like leave my lights on.
The original one is this type, only the bottom two pins do anything, the top two are just supports.

The speaker is 16 ohms but would any other impedance still work ok?
I can get an exact replacement from either Germany or China but if pretty much any speaker will work then I could just buy any mini speaker on ebay and solder it in.
I found this one that's been repaired on another forum and looking at the specs, it's 100 ohm!

What difference does the impedance make and is it an issue for something like this?
Wouldn't want to damage anything else in the cluster by trying to save a few ££.

Impedance is the resistance in ohms to an AC sine wave of 1 KHz, so the lower impedance the more current it will draw. I'd stick with the same or go higher, the latter will reduce the sound level.

you could use an 8 ohm and put an 8 ohm resistor in line bringing upto 16 ohms

sure its the speaker ? common fault on vw/audi is the drivers door microswitch on the lock seized,causes the car to think the doors are closed all the time so the alarm wont work for the warnings-just a thought

then the bloody thing starts locking the door on you coz it does not think you opened it.... must get mine apart one day

Got exact thing wrong on my Skoda. Classic symptom is door well light not working but bulb tests okay.

It doesn't bing when the low fuel warning comes and doesn't bong when I go over 80mph....not that I ever do that of course.

I was thinking the same, it's much easier to find a 4 or 8 ohm speaker.
That still leaves me looking for a resistor though.

An 8 ohm resistor won't work, dc resistance of an 8ohm speaker is 6.4 ish ohms. You need 2 8 ohm speakers to get 16 ohms and wire them in series

granted it wouldn't get an exact 16 ohms but it would be close enough, and more importantly not less then 16 ohms
