Tidy, it is a lovely unthreatening motor.
When I bought mine I was dreading being underwhelmed by the performance.Love it.
Two years back we got off the ferry from Spain and were among the first bikes to the services about 100 miles later, that threw me. Beat all the big tourers and most of the GS'ers and were not trying.
Then Johnny Fireblade came over and stroked my tank and said 'An Africa twin, the bike everybody wants'. Bless him.
Until you want to check the plugs or valves.
I have promised to build a chop for about 15 years, shameful.

Nice project. I've got a k100 hibernating. They're not slow, slow but certainly not a crotch rocket. The 16v ones were a bit more powerful but the standard was only 90hp I think? Also remember reading that a breed of ford injector will fit if you want to upgrade. There is are definitely some k100 turbos and I think a k100 based bike won the "BEARS" race series so there is definitely some room for tweaking. Stock drive splines may be an issue at increased torques but maybe you're altering the drive setup

Could be. I probably read about it on the k100 forum, I recon have a look on there. Good thing is that at the moment k bike prices seem to pretty much rock bottom so engines can almost be treated as disposable. But yea, the drive splines will be the weakest link in the chain.

Splines wear and then strip. Can't put a pin in as they need to move in and out to let the suspension go up and down. It's the in and out movement while loaded that kills them...will you have suspension? If not, maybe this is a non issue after all!
