Big shout out to Alan and Jim

I got a board for my Phoenix at a great price, it came from a welder that had been physically damaged but the board I needed was intact
It arrived today and although it was a slightly different board (newer model I presume) I got it fitted and hesitantly I powered up, it ran through the normal diagnostic check, showed up the current/voltage etc and stayed there instead of going to the error message.

I have done a few test welds on 3mm, 10mm and 20mm and the smile was back on my ugly mug

So thanks once again to Alan and Jim it is much appreciated, also to Calum who helped me out over the phone.

I can’t take the credit for the new PCB, that was Alan who managed to source that, but EWM are a good company to deal with and will try very hard to keep customers new and old happy.

Thanks Richard, it’s part of our policy that the individual who chooses to spend his own personal hard earned cash on EWM machines, is just as important as the Blue Chip company with millions to spend. Very pleased for you Hood, I can very much appreciate what you have gone through. When you get used to better machinery, you wonder why you didn't do it earlier, however on the other hand when it stops, it feel like you have one hand tied behind your back, not to mention 'what the hell do I do now'.

Thanks Henry and yes that is exactly how I felt. Been welding Alu on the boats for 30 plus years and only had a pulse Mig this last year but when I had to go back to the standard mig it wasn't nice as I now know what I am missing
Thankfully all I have had to do in the last few weeks has been small bits and pieces but in a week or two I have a bigger job to do so I am glad the EWM is back up and running.
Had a lot of Alu work last year and so far this year but I have had all sorts of expensive things breaking down and needing replaced and the EWM packing up was the almost last straw if I am honest.
Hopefully my bad luck has changed and I can get some money together this year to splash out on a new EWM

^^^ Can't comment on the older version 330, but then new Phoenix 350 full synergic pulse mig, had some bells and whistles. Can't tell you what it was like on alli, as never tried. I only had a go on steel with some of the 'rootarc' (root welding ) settings. It was great just set the wire thickness, set to rootarc and press the trigger. I also welded some .6mm S/S to 12 steel plate with .9mm wire, which was spectacular. Even got a comment from the customer as to the finish of the weld. All I would be able to say that 10 years of technology advancement from a product that was good in the first place will be significantly better. If you can justify the cost or even stretch the budget, get the push pull digital gun with the ability to change settings (PC2) from memory. Makes life much easier when stuck upside down in a shoe box with ribs and stringers climbing up you a#$e.

Yes the 330 sounds similar although I am the opposite, never tried it on anything other than Aluminium although one day I intend to try out the stainless flux core I have.

Unlikely I will get as far as affording digital Push-Pull but then again the way the knees are going my days of crawling about in bilges are numbered so might not need it anyway

The strange thing is, from my tests today, it seemed different from what it was a few weeks ago. Whether it is just my imagination but it seemed more crackly on the settings I previously used but the welds looked the same or maybe even slightly nicer. Not sure if that PCB controls such things or not but it is certainly a newer PCB and also has an additional board piggy backed on to it so maybe it is. I am sure will get it dialled in to my liking as it just seemed a wee bit harsh on the arc compared to previously but when I think back that was what it was like when I first started using it until I found the settings to suit my style.
