Big ass DC caps any good for anything?

I got some large VFD's which try as I might I have been unable to find an outlet for so it looks like they are heading for the skip. I've yet to pull one to bits but the first thing I have noticed is that they have a bank of four large 400v electrolytic capacitors in them. At a guess they are about 100mm tall and 50mm diameter. I can't quite read the mfd until I get the cover off but I see three noughts at least.

What might they be useful for?

If you have a skip load of them, build your self a rail gun.

If the three noughts you're referring to are the ones shown in the picture they're not noughts. They are showing the negative terminal.

What are the vfd's ? what's wrong them? Lots of people selling spares on ebay so could you split them into bits and sell them?

The vfd's are huge, 45kw

Huge is a question of scale, electrically 45kW is tiny compared to some of the monsters in process engineering / gas compression etc, but certainly over the top for the "domestic" market. Not many on here will need a 45 kW one for their garage..

VFDs of that size must have some fair sized Mosfets/IGBTs, might be worth eBaying them.
