If you're at risk of having an epileptic fit, then the DVLA will revoke your license.

So is it fair or safe to allow high intensity stroboscopic lights to be used if it can induce an epileptic reflex on someone who epilepsy is normally under control in normal circumstances?
A strobe at a certain frequency and for a certain period would only affect about 3% of people who could be prone to epilepsy.
I just find it utterly stupid to allow a device to be used on the road that is dangerous. Police lights and service vehicle lights do not have the same danger.

Rather than hijack another thread, someone mentioned their recumbent bike specs, including Supernova lights...the ones that cause the glare in their website advertising sequence, This was filmed with a camera having, presumably, good optics. What chance has the human eye got?

I've just bought an Exposure TraceR (Mk2?) rear light for my daily commuter.

3 miles to work with some cycle paths but the road parts can be like wacky races some mornings..

I've had this one for the last couple if years or more. Main use us for night-time off-road mountain biking.
It'd powerful enough for that and battery life is pretty good.
(you don't need full power for anything except narrow, nadgery single-track trail descents - you can reduce output for the rest).
I run this lamp on my helmet (miners lamp style with the battery on my belt and the cable is the back) and a 2nd cheapie Lidl job on the handlebars. This gives you some light where the front wheel is pointed, as well as light where you're looking to go and the combo works well. It also gives you a failsafe of some light were you to lose one (pretty important on forest trails where its pitch black).
