Bevel/Deburring

i need to bevel a fair amount of 10mm plate to practice on.
i cant afford a gas setup,but came across this machine

has anyone used or seen one in the flesh?
its not ideal as is,but im thinking it could be modified to get a more substantial bevel
its that or a grinder

Sounds a lot of money for something that you're going to have to modify anyway.

Personally I'd prefer a 9" angle grinder, bevelling for a weld isn't exactly precision work.

How much is a lot?

That bit of kit isnt up to the job i would say, based on how much it is and its stated capacity. You'll probably just end up breaking it.

Search for Trumpf plate bevellers. They will do the job but are not cheap and are nasty to use. An adequate prep can be achieved with a grinder.

not much for some but a lot for me at home-50 meters
my idea was to do it in several passes,not overloading the bit/motor,as the jig can be raised or lowered.
i have a bosch blue 9 inch grinder which would be up to the job,but ive never attempted a bevel on this scale

Do you own a router? Looking at that beveller that's the image that came immediately to mind. They work great on ally, steel would a nono normally but with the right cutter will probably work as well as that beveller albeit potentially more dangerous... kickbacks on wood aren't exactly fun, they're a lot worse with ally (potentially bending the shank or spindle) although ally can be cut with normal TCT router bits which take bigger bites than carbide burrs

Google shopping example of a carbide burr that should be suitable, also available in 45*. Obviously several passes adjusting the depth is less likely to ruin your day (or worse) than trying to take heavy cuts.

Assuming I've misunderstood your first post, I'd go with WP and say use a grinder. It'll take a couple of hours to prep and be pretty nasty - do wear lots of noise and vibration cancelling PPE - but with good grinding discs and a decent grinder even 50m isn't too bad.

Also worth looking at the prep you're putting on - you might not need a full vee as you can probably leave a land of 2 mm if you leave a 2mm gap in the joint. That way you only have to prep 8mm of steel thickness, not 10 - which is much easier. You'll also need less weld material too.

If you're prepping from both sides you can still leave a flat land in the centre of the joint and only prep 4mm of thickness from each side. Easier still, and even less weld!

its mild steel.i had thought about carbide burrs from a die grinder,inclosed in some kind of gantry powered somehow by a vari speed grinder i have lying about.your router idea is much more practical.
i also considered the evolution evo dedicated metal cutting circular saws. 0 - 45deg bevel.says itll cut 12mm at 90deg,so its in and around my needs.its a bigger gamble pricewise if its not up to the job

Those evolution saws are good, but I would say the safest way is the grinder, thats the way I have seen it done in engineering workshops, unless the pug with gas was used which you sre not going to buy as it would cost a fortune.
You would soon shift the metal once the grinder has worn a we bit and you have your edge, as long as you are making it work,

I would say that machine was a light duty machine for giving you a nice safe edge.
