I'm a bit like that with woodwork too. I only do it when I have to, and to be honest it's just not my thing. What I like about good quality blades is the minimum amount of cleaning up to do after the cut. Just a very light rub over with some sandpaper and it's ready to fit! I really don't believe in struggling with planes etc to get a nice smooth finish. I've trimmed down oversise doors with it, and had them hung in no time.
I'll happily spend ages on a metal thing filing it to size, but where's the fun in doing that with a lump of wood? Three plane strokes too many and it's too small! Pah! Too much faffing for me!
