I went for a 15lb sledgehammer as anvil, 5lb club hammer for the main adjustment, and finished off the final tweaks with my 15” King Dick![]()

Zinc may go into any pores in the metal exposed by acid but I can tell you that it doesn't penetrate into the steel.Galvanising actually penetrates a few thou, this is part of their pre surface treatment with acid, doesn’t just sit on the surface of the steel, however,it’s durability has been compromised,so with road salt etc,it’ll corrode before the rest.
PROHIBITION NOTICE.
Completely illegal repair. This sort of bodge can be life ending or worse.
please accept this as a prohibition note to stop using the trailer immediately.
your only option now is to deliver said trailer to me for furtherusedisposal.
we will provide a short amnesty for use allowing you to make the delivery.
Thank you
OK - so I may have exaggerated a bit on the lump hammer - it's only 4lb....I want to see a picture of the 15lb sledge. We used to use a 12lb at the foundry for breaking core irons when I was a lad. Club hammers are typically 2.5lb.
The metal is thick enough I wouldn't worry about it corroding before any of the rest of the trailer.

I was told this by Hereford galvanisers years ago.Zinc may go into any pores in the metal exposed by acid but I can tell you that it doesn't penetrate into the steel.
