Best way of cleaning up welds?

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this site am seeking some advice on dressing my finished welds.
Firstly, here is what I am building -

Its a 1967 Vw Kombi (camper) thats rotten up to the waste.
Anyway, Ive done a fair bit of welding on it and when I try and grind the welds down using flap wheels, I find that sometimes they are a bit to rigid and harsh and sometime thin the metal surrounding the weld.
A few people have recommended using the "roloc" sanding pads as they are flexible and fairly easy to control.
Whats best for the welds that will be on external panels?

you should have sleeved the windscreen posts internally for stregnth it would have also welded better less holes blown wouldnt like to be in that in a crash head on

Yeah I know what you are saying mate.
That is justa trial fit to get the fron panel lined up, which it doesnt, so they will be coming out again and will be strengthened.
To be honest, in a front ender Id be dead anyway.

Well I always use 36 grit fibre discs mounted on an angle grinder, you get a lovely finished weld then!!

dont mean to sound an ass...but have you welded most of that front on without trying the doors on etc ?
