Best thing for bare metaling alloy skins?

Ive seen various tools mentioned before for stripping paint from steel, but alloy is considerably softer.

Im wanting to strip some landrover door skins that have been painted in all sorts over the years.

A DA sander with 120g will do it, but not before i get bored and just buy new skins (which i clearly dont want to do!)


So, what can i mail order and fit to a drill/grinder/da sander/multitool etc?

Id use Dimethyl chloride, but that stuff gives me the fear (last time i used it, it just dissolved my gloves instantly)

I take it you've ruled out Nitromors?

How about strip and clean disc in a grinder. I've not used them on alloy but they make short work of layers of paint on steel.

I've used polycarbide discs in a grinder on some series 3 panels and they worked very well if somewhat expensive.

dont use cheap gloves and buy the industrial paint stripper and use it outside. just a bit of common sense and safety needed i just bought half a gallon it comes in handy along with a gallon of decent acid for de rusting stuff . i just mark all the containers with a waterproof marker what they are so when the labels fall off i still know what it is without sniffing it

Yes, don't push too hard and they last longer I think. I remember someone suggesting them and they weren't cheap but in stock at Screwfix I think and they really did work well.

Use the poly strips as flat as possible or you'll end up with a dome in the middle and nothing at the edge.
